Equis is a set of organizations (including Equis Research, Equis Institute, and EquisLabs) working to create a better understanding of Latinos, innovate new approaches to reach and engage them, and invest in the leadership and infrastructure for long-term change and increased engagement.
Since 2019, we have served as a hub for Latino research and innovation, leaning into the complexities of Latino voters in the United States, ensuring they get the sophistication of treatment and level of attention that matches their critical role in the electorate. Equis is also committed to developing Latino leaders across the progressive space, serving as a convener of organizations and individuals leading Hispanic-focused programs. The scope of our work is designed to engage Latinos in multiple arenas because we believe that this moment requires a complete rethinking of how we engage Latinos.
Moonshots encompass a range of 5-10 year projects targeting key areas: Democracy, Culture, Media, and Talent. With an intentionally broad scope, our aim is to redefine Latino engagement across multiple sectors. We collaborate with partners and allies, prioritize research and learning, and develop programs to tackle the underlying challenges hindering Latino influence and participation.
The Democracy Moonshot is designed to radically transform the civic experience of Latinos in this country and raise their participation in elections and civic life to levels commensurate with their potential as the second largest voting bloc in the country.
Reporting to the Chief of Strategic Initiatives for Democracy and Talent, Equis is seeking a Senior Director who will lead the launch, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the 2024 electoral programs that seek to mobilize Latino voters at scale in key communities across the US.
Providing both day-to-day management and strategic leadership of 2024 Democracy Programming, the ideal candidate will be someone who has strong experience in strategic development and planning, team management, testing and evaluating programs, using data to inform decision making, and being able to be innovative and creative.
Strategic Implementation: Build upon and translate a strategic vision for 2024 electoral programs and beyond and lead the implementation and roll-out of the Equis Civic Associations program and experimental electoral pilot projects in Latino communities alongside the Chief of Strategic Initiatives for Democracy and Talent.
People and Vendor Management: Projected to hire and manage a team of up to 3 full-time employees, as well as oversee relationships with vendors, consultants, and partners.
Research, test, and evaluate data: For each of the 2024 electoral Latino turnout projects, work with consultants, partners, and vendors to create and implement a research and testing strategy that will provide data on the effectiveness of programming and will inform future programming.
Partner Engagement: Work closely with relevant partners within the Latino Democracy ecosphere. Build and manage partnerships with both national partners, as well as identify and co-create programming with local partners in communities who will implement programming.
Community presence: Travel to selected communities to interface with local partners and leaders on a monthly basis.
Long-term vision: Collaborate with the Chief and broader Equis leadership to develop a long-term strategic plan for electoral programming beyond 2024.
Budget Oversight: Manage the project budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, and implement systems to track outgoing expenditures in real-time.
Project Management: Ensure timely execution of projects and logistics, monitor progress, and communicate any roadblocks along the way.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between various departments, external partners, and stakeholders, facilitating communication and synergies across initiatives.
Fundraising Support: Assist in fundraising efforts, including material creation, grant reporting, and investor pitches.
