Position Overview and Responsibilities

USofCare is seeking a dynamic and experienced ** Senior Manager of Communications** to lead in crafting impactful communications strategies that disseminate our public opinion research, enhance our brand narrative, and position our leadership team as influential voices in the field. This position reports to the Director of Communications. 

The Senior Manager is a strategic communicator, and will develop and execute comprehensive communications plans that support the release of public opinion research and programmatic findings. They will translate complex public opinion, research, and policy work into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences including media, funders, elected officials, and other key stakeholders. 

In this role, the Senior Manager will refine and enhance the organization’s brand, impact narratives, and messaging across digital and print platforms. They will provide mentorship and oversight to junior communications staff, and collaborate across departments to align communications efforts with organizational goals. 

The Senior Manager will collaborate with the Communications Director to design and implement a leadership strategy that elevates the organization’s visibility and credibility, through the development of opinion pieces, speeches, and articles that position senior leaders as thought leaders in the field. They will coach and prepare senior leadership for media engagements including interviews, panel appearances, speeches, and podcast recordings about our research work and brand. 

Success will depend on their ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities. They are able to work independently while engaging the team as needed to maintain alignment and collaboration. 

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have a strong commitment to ensuring everyone has access to quality, affordable health care, and have a dedication to operating in a diverse, bipartisan, learning atmosphere that explores multiple policy solutions to achieve our mission. You are willing to respect different points of view, have experience working on a diverse team, and are committed to applying an equity lens in all your work. 

  • You hold a minimum of 6 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably with national nonprofits, foundations, or similar organizations.

  • You are able to demonstrate a proven track record with experience in storytelling, brand, and narrative development.

  • You demonstrate excellent writing skills and expertise in translating technical or programmatic information into accessible and audience-focused messaging, and experience developing thought leadership strategies including producing high-impact written collateral for executive leadership.

  • You possess strong project management skills with the ability to oversee complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and strategies, and the ability to manage multiple communications projects simultaneously, maintaining focus on attention to detail and adhering to deadlines.

  • A background working with Meltwater, Mailchimp, and Wordpress are preferred.

  • You are able to remain flexible and enthusiastic about working in a startup environment and are willing to take on a wide range of tasks.

USofCare is committed to equity in our compensation policy. The salary range for this position is $85,000-$95,000/annually depending on experience and location.

This position is full-time and is fully remote. Candidates may be located anywhere in the United States.
