JOB DESCRIPTION

About RepresentUs

RepresentUs is America’s leading nonpartisan organization fighting to protect and strengthen democracy. We unite independents, progressives and conservatives to pass pro-democracy laws, fight corruption, and defeat authoritarian threats. We have won more than 170 victories in cities and states across America since our founding 11 years ago. Each win is one step closer to our vision of making America the world’s strongest democracy by 2050.

RepresentUs is a carefully curated mix of professionals who want to make an impact in the world, and are passionate about strengthening democracy. We’re not a startup, but we’ve got startup DNA: we’re nimble, constantly learning and iterating, and we push ourselves to push the envelope—to ignore “industry standards” and set a new standard.

Democracy is for all, and at RepresentUs, so is our workplace. That's why we're an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to evolving our staff and board to reflect the full diversity of America and the communities we aim to serve. As we seek the best of the best to join our ranks, we welcome applications from all walks of life (including but not limited to BIPOC/people of color, women, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ candidates) because we know that our democracy-building work has greater impact when we center diverse backgrounds, perspectives and ideologies. Once on the team, we encourage our teammates to bring their whole selves to work. We’re continually working to increase our cultural awareness, strengthen our approach to equity, and foster a climate of inclusion in all that we do. We invite you to belong with us! Read our statement on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging here

These Cultural Agreements are the principles that guide the work we do and how we work together. They were developed collaboratively by a team of staff across the organization. It is critical to our success that all current and prospective staff review this document and agree to center these ideals in our work. We believe playing by and iterating on these rules will maximize the positive impact our organization has on the strength of America’s democracy.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Marketing Director, the Senior Manager, Email Marketing will lead our national member email program, activating our membership and keeping them engaged in volunteer and donation opportunities to help campaigns win.

This role is responsible for overseeing RepresentUs’ overall email program and strategy to find and activate new audiences, hit fundraising targets, and deepen volunteer engagement with our work. In this role, you will manage the organization's email program to tell the story of our movement, bring new and existing supporters up a ladder of engagement, and convert those supporters to donate and take action for our movement. You will also write and edit campaign emails and manage our email copywriting contractor.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Direct RepresentUs’ overall email strategy, working in conjunction with Marketing and Mobilization to set and define goals for the email programs.

  • Identify target audiences for growth and develop strategies to reach, recruit, and analyze their performance.

  • Design and test a new automated messaging series (welcome series, re-engagement messaging) to move members up the ladder of engagement.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders across the organization to support the mobilization and recruitment of volunteers and donors across the country.

  • Develop and track metrics to measure programs effectiveness (and sharing your expertise and suggestions for how to make them better!).

  • Support strategic organizational projects as needed

  • Manage the email calendar, making sure emails are drafted, sent, tested, and results are recorded.

  • Writing advocacy, informational, and fundraising emails for hundreds of thousands of supporters and ensuring they get sent to the correct audiences without mistakes. Provide sharp edits on emails and texts written by other team members.

  • Monitor and improve email deliverability to ensure our messaging is delivered.

  • Ensure content on all emails and their corresponding landing pages are up to date and relevant.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience managing email programs.

  • Demonstrated experience growing email programs on a political campaign or organization with at least 100,000 list members.

  • Demonstrated experience generating revenue (fundraising or customer revenue) through email.

  • Excellent writing skills: you can craft emotionally-compelling copy about political issues and spark action.

  • Strong proficiency with email CRMs and platforms like ActionKit and EveryAction.

  • Knowledge and experience building automated messaging series and segmenting audiences.

  • Ability to analyze data and use your results to inform future strategies.

  • Commitment to working beyond partisanship is required. Previous experience working with cross-partisan coalitions is preferred – candidates without this experience will be considered if they can speak to how they would approach working across the aisle.

  • Passion for RepresentUs' mission to make America work for everyone, not just the powerful and well-connected.
