JOB DESCRIPTION

Social Listening & Analysis Lead

About the Truth Fund

As the media landscape has transformed, financial pressure, polarization, and disconnection have left many Americans feeling the American Dream is slipping out of reach, while bad actors exploit these conditions to make extreme views appear mainstream and deepen distrust and division. ** The Truth Fund fills a critical gap in the pro-democracy media ecosystem by using new technology to identify authentic, emotionally resonant stories from everyday Americans and working with trusted partners to amplify them.** By elevating lived experience during both rapid-response moments and over the long term, we are building the cultural infrastructure needed to make pro-democracy narratives more relevant, credible, and powerful.

About the Position

The Social Listening & Analysis Lead is the engine of that work. They spend their days inside our listening tools, spotting posts that are resonating within a community but haven't broken through yet, and packaging them for our partners who then amplify them.

This is a hands-on research role: part analyst, part editor and part community builder, with the potential to grow into a longer-term position as the program scales.

Role Details

  • Title: Social Listening & Analysis Lead

  • Term: Contract, December 2026 through March 2027 (with opportunity for expansion and/or permanent position)

  • Commitment: Approximately 30-40 hours per week

  • Compensation:$6,000-$7,000 per month

  • Reports to: Executive Director and/or Editorial Lead

  • Location: Remote

Core Responsibilities

Listening & Content Discovery

  • Review content across all active listening communities in the Haystack social listening tool daily, including posts flagged by hourly scans, and other tools or platforms as needed.

  • Identify high-value posts that meet our editorial guides: real people, unexpected messengers and clear stakes on issues like cost of living, work and public safety.

  • Dig deeper on promising finds, pairing a post with related local news coverage, Reddit threads or video to build a fuller story.

  • Evaluate all content against partner needs, editorial criteria and C3 compliance standards.

Packaging & Delivery

  • Package selected content with short, clear context for each partner, matched to what each one covers.

  • Prepare content packages on the delivery schedule set by the Editorial Lead (currently up to daily for roughly seven partners).

  • Log every post that goes out in the partner deliverables tracker.

Community Building & Tool Management

  • Build new listening communities on request: research and propose a list of accounts within three days, set the community up in Haystack and report weekly on how it is performing.

  • Maintain and refine account lists and keyword strings for existing communities, adding strong voices and removing underperforming accounts.

  • Spin up rapid-response communities and editorial guides when breaking moments call for real-time listening (for example, voting access or post-election conversations).

  • Manage data synching between Haystack and Junkipedia so key accounts become part of our permanent dataset.

  • Conduct monthly Account Discovery runs and/or audit and remove underperforming accounts from active communities to ensure Communities continue to yield strong content

  • Run Trend Reports and draft analysis on key communities or topics as needed

  • Leverage Junkipedia subscriptions, and other technology as needed to supplement Haystack as necessary

Tracking & Reporting

  • Record views and engagement on the original post at the time it is found and when it is sent to partners, tracking views and likes separately.

  • Track partner pickups and secondary shares, and flag potential case studies to the Editorial Lead.

  • Contribute themes, standout posts and emerging narratives to monthly community trend reports.

Ideal Profile

  • Very online: fluent in how social platforms, creator culture and online communities work, with a strong instinct for what will resonate.

  • Sharp editorial judgment and the ability to explain why a piece of content matters in a sentence or two.

  • Comfortable working in AI tools and writing or refining prompts;

  • Organized and detail-oriented, with comfort in spreadsheets and basic metrics.

  • Able to work independently on a fast-moving team and take direction quickly.

  • 1–2 years of experience in digital communications, campaigns, advocacy, journalism or research preferred.

  • Familiarity with progressive media, advocacy or labor ecosystems is a plus.
