Location: New York, NY

Reports to: Communications Director

Salary: $3,000-$3,500

Employment through November 3, 2025

Independent candidate for New York City Council. Join a people-powered campaign focused on quality-of-life issues—not party politics. Platform focused on community initiatives with a commitment to transparency, compassion, and results-driven leadership.

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for owning and executing the campaign’s digital storytelling strategy across platforms including Instagram, Twitter/X, Threads, Facebook, TikTok, and others. Majority of the hours will be nights and weekends. Longer availability will be needed in the final 6 weeks of the campaign. This role includes video creation, live coverage, and content posting, as well as close coordination with the candidate as their day-to-day digital “body person” to capture authentic moments and driving real-time engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Creation & Management

  • Film, edit, and post daily video content — both polished and organic — across platforms.

  • Write engaging, on-brand copy for posts, captions, and threads in coordination with the communications director.

  • Maintain and execute the campaign’s social media calendar

  • Monitor trends, hashtags, and current events for rapid-response and reactive content

  • Capture and edit content on the fly while traveling with the candidate

  • On-the-Ground Coverage

  • Accompany the candidate to events and appearances to film behind-the-scenes and live moments

  • Ensure timely posting and engagement before, during, and after events

  • Maintain a steady flow of high-quality content that reflects the tone and values of the campaign

  • Strategy & Engagement

  • Collaborate with the communications team to ensure message alignment

  • Track performance metrics and adjust strategies based on analytics

  • Engage with followers, respond to comments and DMs when appropriate

  • Stay up-to-date on trends in political and movement digital media

Qualifications

  • 1–2+ years of experience in digital media, content creation, or campaign communications

  • Proficiency in mobile video production, editing (e.g., CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, Canva)

  • Strong writer with an intuitive grasp of tone, brand, and voice

  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, and best practices

  • Highly organized, quick-thinking, and able to manage multiple deadlines

  • Willingness to work irregular hours and travel regularly with the candidate

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism at all times

  • Support for the values and vision of the campaign
