JOB DESCRIPTION

Salary: Base salary at MO JwJ is $48,000 and this position is commensurate with experience with a salary range between $48,000-$55,000.

The St. Louis Organizer, under the supervision of the Deputy Director, will work closely with the Leadership Team, Organizing Committee, and with member organizations, funders, and national affiliations to provide organizing and administrative support to the local development and implementation of MO JwJ campaigns and programs This position is based in St. Louis and will include some travel around the state as part of campaign mobilizations and meetings with the broader MO JwJ leadership and staff.

 

Responsibilities: 

Base-Building: The MO JwJ coalition is in a phase of deepening investment. The Organizer will work closely with local leadership to implement MO JwJ’s outreach to new member organizations and build the base of individual activists to move our work forward.

 

Campaigns: MO JwJ is action-oriented. We don’t just talk about the work, we do the work through grassroots campaigns for social and economic justice. The Organizer will coordinate campaign development, mobilization, and evaluation with leaders and members. Campaigns will include legislative campaigns, municipal campaigns, and campaigns to support workplace-based organizing and the right to collective bargaining.

 

Committee Support and Development: MO JwJ operates through leadership-driven committees such as local Leadership Teams, Organizing Committees, Mobilization Committees, and other campaign and project specific committees. The Organizer will support these committees by providing logistical coordination, co-creating agenda and materials with leaders, assisting committee communication, accountability and more.

 

Fundraising, Communications and Data Management:  The Organizer will help implement an annual fundraising plan, including organizational contributions, individual contributions, merchandise sales, grants, grassroots activities, as well as develop new sources of funding for the organization. The Organizer will also be responsible for maintaining internal data and driving online communications in support of local campaigns.

 

Leadership Development:  The Organizer will encourage, foster, and develop the abilities of MO JwJ members, particularly rank and file members, to take on leadership to develop and build the organization. This will include participation in three-day Building JwJ Leadership Development trainings throughout the year. 

 

Administration:  The Organizer will be responsible for the administrative functions of the work, specifically database management, grant administration, correspondence and record-keeping.

 

Qualifications:

  • Solid commitment to the principles of social and economic justice

  • Commitment to dismantling white supremacy and patriarchy

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Ability to be a self-starter, and to work independently toward agreed upon goals 

  • A strong ability to motivate people, coordinate volunteer activity and delegate responsibility

  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of organizations and people

  • Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends; while also being able to prioritize work and seek input and feedback from the team about how to maintain a healthy work life balance

  • Proficient computer skills, including database management and google docs

  • Vehicle and insurance available for work (mileage outside of office commute is reimbursed)
