DC Vote is working to win DC Statehood with full representation in the U.S. Congress and the same legal rights for the 700,000 residents of DC – as residents of any other state in the nation. Washington DC is the only national capital in the world without a voice in its national legislature. The fight for DC statehood is working to advance democracy, voting rights, and equality. This impacts policy outcomes around issues including economic justice, health care, labor, reproductive justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, immigration, criminal justice and safety, climate, racial justice and more. DC Vote is driving a multi-year campaign aimed at making statehood undeniable and achievable at the next window of opportunity. Position Description
Full voting rights and statehood for the 700,000 residents of DC cannot be won without building alliances, support, and power outside of DC. The DC Statehood Field Director will develop and execute a strategy to grow visibility, support, action, and power for DC statehood in approximately 7-10 key states.
Responsibilities:
Alliance Growth and Basebuilding: Grow a critical mass of supporters and allies that are taking action around DC statehood in key strategic states by working with existing allies, growing new alliances with national, regional, and local organizations and organized constituencies. This person will develop and execute strategies to build the visibility by connecting DC statehood to a range of issues (e.g. health care, affordability, economic justice, democracy, voting rights, veterans issues, reproductive rights, workers rights, etc), that are important to people on the ground in a variety of communities.
Strategic Action Development and Execution: Develop and execute in-person and online actions, including town halls, press events, actions, and digital calls to action (in coordination with our digital communications lead) to show and grow support for DC Statehood.
Leadership Development, Training, and Capacity Building: Grow the capacity of motivated DC statehood supporters to build power by tapping into their networks and recruit and activate constituents outside of DC to take regular action to make their voices heard in support of statehood.
Public Representation and Communications: Serve as one of the spokespeople for the organization at public events, hearings, conferences, meetings with lawmakers, and in social and earned media. Advise on communications strategy, including reviewing press releases and social content and shaping digital calls to action.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with the National Advocacy Director, communications team, strategic advisors, and Executive Director to develop and execute strategy.

Must-Haves
5-7+ years of progressive experience in organizing, coalition building, and issue and action. A deep understanding and demonstrated experience building power, initiating and deepening public relationships, identifying the interests of leaders, allies, and constituents, moving people into action around an issue, and developing and executing pragmatic,effective organizing campaign strategies that win results.
Organizing campaign skill and impact. Track record of leading successful campaigns, delivering impactful victories, and building long-term power.
Demonstrated ability to effectively convene multiple stakeholders and mediate competing priorities in the service of collective vision and goals.
Flexible and able to strategically assess situations, shifting as needed with focus and ease.

Discipline to stay on message with press and at public events. Proficiency with online communication platforms (e.g. Slack, Microsoft, etc).
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Nice-to-Haves** **
**Familiarity with communications, messaging and digital organizing and communications tools and capacities. **This role will collaborate with digital and earned media communications professionals to integrate communications tactics into base building and campaign actions.
This role will work with communications teams to shape strategies around growing the number of supporters taking action around our issues and shaping messaging that moves a variety of audiences.
Pre-existing networks of relationships with base-building and issue organizations in various states.
Experience with vetting potential partners in key states for subgranting relationships.
Experience with the compliance requirements and restrictions of 501c3 and 501c4 organizations.
Working conditions:
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, remote position. The position will require travel up to 10% of the time to key states to deepen relationships and to execute actions and events. Occasionally, long hours are required to respond to emerging circumstances. Occasional work events outside of the 9 AM - 5 PM Monday-Friday working hours. DC Vote is committed to work-life balance.
Salary & Benefits: The salary range for the position is $100,000-$130,000. DC Vote offers excellent benefits, including employer paid health insurance, a retirement plan, and employer matching contributions, generous vacation and leave policy.
