JOB DESCRIPTION

About Us

Unlocked Labs is committed to transforming the justice system by empowering and employing justice-impacted individuals to build technology solutions that improve educational and reentry outcomes. We provide innovative, reliable, and scalable digital infrastructure designed specifically for correctional settings to ensure impactful educational opportunities for incarcerated individuals.

Position Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Technology Implementation Manager to take a lead role in helping our partners successfully adopt and deploy technology solutions. In this role, you will work directly with correctional facilities and other stakeholders to assess their needs, design tailored solutions, and then deploy those solutions on-site. You will also be responsible for maintaining a custom Linux image and ensuring the smooth operation of digital classroom infrastructure. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, hands-on deployment, and excellent partner engagement skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with partners to understand their unique needs and recommend the most suitable technology solution.

  • Lead on-site deployment of digital classrooms within correctional facilities, ensuring all infrastructure is correctly installed and configured.

  • Design, create, and maintain a customized Debian-based Linux distribution, including kernel, system configuration, and package management.

  • Maintain and update a custom Linux image tailored for educational environments in carceral settings.

  • Ensure stability, reliability, and security throughout the distribution's lifecycle, including implementing security hardening practices.

  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot network solutions, including both on-premise and secure environments.

  • Set up and manage a GitHub repository for the Linux distribution, including ticketing systems for bug tracking and feature requests.

  • Ensure that deployed systems adhere to high standards of network security, especially given the sensitive nature of correctional environments.

  • Develop and implement testing strategies to ensure the stability and reliability of the Linux distribution.

  • Provide training and support to facility staff and program participants to ensure successful adoption of the technology.

  • Continuously work to improve and streamline deployment processes, incorporating feedback from justice-impacted individuals and facility staff.

  • Create and maintain clear documentation, including installation guides, FAQs, and technical manuals.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Field Deployment Experience: Willingness to travel to correctional facilities for on-site deployment and support, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

  • Network Engineering: Strong understanding of enterprise-level network infrastructure and configurations.

  • Network Security Engineering: Experience implementing security best practices, firewalls, VPNs, and other network protection mechanisms.

  • Linux Administration: Proficient in managing and customizing Linux distributions, preferably with experience maintaining custom images, kernel customization, and package management.

  • Windows Administration: Capable of managing Windows environments for digital classroom and server solutions.

  • Enterprise Network Design and Administration: Demonstrated ability to design and implement secure, scalable networks.

  • GitHub Administration and Project Management: Experience setting up GitHub repositories, ticketing systems, and managing community contributions.

  • Partner Engagement: Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the correctional or education technology space or familiarity with digital learning environments in secure settings.

  • Certifications such as CCNA, RHCE, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or similar.

  • Experience with kernel-level development, custom driver integration, and secure configurations (e.g., SELinux/AppArmor).

  • Experience working with mixed technology environments (Linux and Windows).

  • Experience contributing to or managing open-source projects.

Why Join Us?

  • Work with a mission-driven team dedicated to making an impact in the justice system through technology and education.

  • Opportunity for career growth and skills development in a dynamic work environment.

  • Collaborative culture where your ideas and expertise are valued, and where lived experience is central to our work.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $90K-120K per year, based on experience and qualifications.

  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities.

  • Additional Perks: Opportunity to work on meaningful projects that have a real impact, flexible work arrangements, and a supportive team environment.
