JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview

The Vice President will play a pivotal role in developing and executing communications strategies on behalf of the firm’s issue advocacy, corporate and electoral campaign clients in Washington, DC and in states across the country. This position involves leading communication initiatives, managing a team, and engaging with clients to support their communication needs. The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and an understanding of the pace of play required to deliver results in a fast-moving media environment. The position will report directly to the President. The role may be remote or hybrid. 

Key Responsibilities

  • **Strategy Development: **Collaborate with clients to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that advance clients' objectives. 

  • **Team Leadership: **Lead and mentor a growing team of communication professionals, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure the successful execution of communication plans.

  • Media Relations: Develop and execute earned media strategies; Cultivate and maintain relationships with media contacts to secure positive coverage for clients; lead media training for clients.

  • Writing & Content Creation: Oversee the creation of compelling content, including press materials, speeches, social media content, messaging guidance, newsletters, op-eds, memos, and other materials.

  • **Client Management: **Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on communication matters, understanding their needs, providing strategic counsel, and delivering high-quality communication solutions.

  • **Event Management: **Plan and execute events, such as press conferences, briefings, and networking receptions, to amplify clients' messaging and facilitate engagement with target audiences.

  • **Performance Tracking: **Oversee tracking of media coverage related to clients in national, regional, state and local markets to inform guidance to clients and identify opportunities to place stories.

  • Campaign Kickstarter: Play an integral role in the firm’s program that helps candidates maximize earned media around the launch of their campaigns.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience: 

  • A minimum of twelve years of experience in communications roles, preferably on Capitol Hill, in the Administration, at a firm, or on electoral or issue advocacy campaigns, with demonstrated success in a leadership role.

  • Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

  • Proven experience placing impactful news stories, developing sharp, effective messaging and dealing with crisis communications situations.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute communication plans that achieve objectives.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple clients and projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Track record of high integrity, good judgment, confidentiality and discretion,

  • Excellent research, writing, editing, proofreading, presentation and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Knowledge: 

  • Understanding of public affairs, the role of communication in government relations, and the Washington, DC political landscape.

  • Understanding of what is newsworthy and how various types of news outlets operate.

  • Network: 

  • Established relationships with media professionals and key stakeholders in Washington, DC.

  • Travel: 

  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed for client work.

Salary and Benefits

The base salary range for this position, not including significant opportunities for new business bonuses, is $120,000-$160,000.
