JOB DESCRIPTION

Volunteer Coordinator- plays a key role in supporting the overall administration and development of the DJs at the Polls program. Volunteers have always played a key part in our organization, and we take their participation, and the job of Volunteer Coordinator, seriously. The Coordinator will be responsible for the recruiting and onboarding of volunteers and helping to identify and develop tasks for them that both give volunteers a rewarding experience and that support our mission. Most of the volunteer work will be in online research about polling locations and calling locations to verify details.

Location: This position requires both remote and in-person work in the area of focus associated with each state listing in the overall job description (see above). Any necessary travel will be compensated.

Who we are: DJs at the Polls is a national, non-partisan “Get out the Vote” initiative that turns on the music to turn out the vote. We make Election Day a celebration by hiring local DJs to bring music to polling places around the country. DJs at the Polls is a project of Unity in the Community and Focus Action Network. Both organizations have a large network of volunteers to draw from.

What You’ll Do:

  • Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers to implement strategies to meet goals based on our needs.

  • Develop and implement projects/tasks for volunteers that support our program goals. Most projects can be done virtually and include research via the internet and phone calls. Closer to the election, we will need in-person volunteers to help with equipment distribution and election-day support of DJs.

  • Create and develop volunteer training materials

  • Create and implement tracking for volunteers calls and research (as needed)

  • Onboard volunteers including conducting interviews and providing online trainings

  • Communicate with, recognize and encourage volunteers with written communication and with Zoom team building meetings

  • Ensure that all volunteers maintain excellent quality control standards

  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to all volunteers and interns, ensuring they have a good experience.

  • Work with partner organizations who can provide volunteers, develop and deliver presentations and material related to volunteer opportunities.

  • Assist with updating marketing materials to recruit volunteers.

  • Develop and distribute volunteer communications, as required.

  • Maintain volunteer database, assemble relevant data, and prepare and deliver reports on volunteer activities to the Deputy Director and co-Director

Who you are:

  • A minimum of one year’s equivalent experience in a volunteer coordinator, volunteer management, volunteer recruitment, nonprofit role, or public service role.

  • Significant experience in volunteering.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and a professional and flexible manner.

  • Exceedingly well-organized with excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects simultaneously, keep projects on track, and execute deliverables.

  • Understand the benefits of and work as a team player.

  • A willingness to work non-traditional hours, think independently, take initiative, be self-directed, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact well with a wide range of people and personalities.

  • Experience with Monday project management software, Google sheets and docs, and Slack a plus.

Capacity to handle sensitive information and topics with the utmost professionalism and discretion.

We welcome all applicants regardless of age, citizenship, gender identity or expression, national origin, pregnancy status, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other differences.
