Zach Wahls is an Iowa State Senator, nationally recognized advocate, and Democratic candidate for US Senate in Iowa running to unseat two-term incumbent Senator Joni Ernst in 2026. As the former Senate Minority Leader, Zach is a respected legislator and leading voice in Iowa politics. Our campaign is committed to bringing Iowa values back to Washington, focusing on policies that benefit working families, strengthen rural communities, and restore accountable leadership to the U.S. Senate. We're building an innovative, energetic campaign that engages voters across all 99 counties and showcases Zach's unique ability to connect with Iowans from all walks of life while centering his passion for service and his dedication to reform. The stakes in this race could not be higher — if this campaign is successful, it is likely that this seat will determine control of the United States Senate in 2027.
Position Overview
The campaign is seeking a highly organized and proactive Events Manager to lead our in-state fundraising events program. The Events Manager will be responsible for planning and executing high- and low-dollar fundraising events across Iowa. This position will report to the Finance Director and collaborate closely with the finance team and candidate to identify, organize, and follow up on fundraising event opportunities. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple logistics at once while engaging effectively with supporters and hosts. This role is a great opportunity for someone passionate about people, community-building, and raising the resources needed to win one of the most competitive Senate races in the country.
Core Responsibilities
Lead the planning, logistics, and execution of all in-state fundraising events, including receptions, house parties, and other fundraising gatherings
Work with hosts to coordinate event details, set fundraising goals, and ensure follow-up with their networks
Collaborate with the Finance Director and Call Time Manager to generate and track event leads and integrate events into the campaign’s broader fundraising program
Maintain event calendars, timelines, and tracking systems to ensure smooth execution and follow-up
Serve as the primary point of contact for event hosts and venues, managing all logistics from initial outreach through day-of coordination
Prepare and manage materials needed for events, including signage, briefing documents, and follow-up communications
Provide support to other departments for events that overlap with voter engagement or communications efforts
Supervise interns or temporary event support staff as needed
Qualifications
1+ years of experience in event planning, volunteer coordination, donor engagement, or related work
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple events simultaneously across a fast-moving schedule
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with donors, hosts, and community members
Self-starter with a collaborative attitude and a commitment to proactive communication
Political campaign or nonprofit experience and/or fundraising experience is a plus but not required
Familiarity with Iowa geography and communities is preferred but not required
Proficiency with Google Workspace and familiarity with NGP or VAN databases
